En el prólogo a su tratado de apicultura, Miner afirma que no fue escrito un solo trabajo sobre apicultura comprensible por un autor americano y es una aseveración que la mayoría de los historiadores de apicultura americana acepta. Llenando este espacio, Miner abordo el tema en base al trabajo de François Huber y otros escritores europeos, y en un acto característico de promoción a si mismo, hace el intento de anunciar una colmena de caja de su propio desarrollo.
